Description
The Ark of the Covenant is shown as a sacred gold-covered chest with ringed feet and long carrying poles running through its sides, following the wilderness tabernacle instructions given to Moses. The open upper form and paneled sides emphasize the ark as a holy vessel made to hold the testimony of the covenant, not as an ordinary treasure chest. In Exodus, God commands Israel to make the ark of acacia wood overlaid with pure gold, with poles that remain in the rings so it may be carried reverently by the appointed servants. The ark represents the covenant presence of the Lord among His people and the central holiness of worship in the tabernacle. This subject serves well for teaching on the Tabernacle, Moses, Old Testament worship, covenant theology, and the sacred objects of Israel’s wilderness journey.
