Joseph’s sarcophagus is carried in a solemn procession, veiled beneath a rich red covering and borne on the shoulders of robed men. A child walks before it with flowers, while attendants, mourners, and armed guards accompany the sacred burden toward the land promised to Israel. The scene recalls Joseph’s final charge to the children of Israel: when God visited them and brought them out of Egypt, they were to carry his bones with them. His coffin becomes a visible testimony of faith in God’s covenant, linking the patriarchal promises to the Exodus and the inheritance of Canaan. For teaching and ministry, the artwork emphasizes remembrance, fulfilled promise, burial hope, covenant faithfulness, and the journey of Israel from Egypt toward the promised land.
