Description
Elisha stands beside the great cooking pot as young men pour gathered wild gourds into the meal prepared for the sons of the prophets. The fire burns high beneath the vessel, and the watching elders reveal the tension of the moment from 2 Kings 4, when famine was in the land and an unsafe ingredient brought danger to the communal meal. In the biblical account, the cry rises, “There is death in the pot,” and Elisha heals the stew by casting in flour, turning threatened provision into safe nourishment. The scene emphasizes God’s care for His servants in scarcity, the discernment of the prophet, and divine power working through ordinary means. Strong for teaching themes of providence, ministry provision, famine, prophetic authority, and the miracles of Elisha.
